India took a bold step towards peace with Pakistan under the leadership of our Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he offered olive branch to his counterpart Nawaz Shariff at Ufa in Russia. But India doubts if the hawks in Pakistan will let the peace process progress. As late as on Sunday, Pakistan made it clear that no voice sample of the LeT mastermind behind Mumbai terror attack in 2008, Zakiur Rahman Lakhvi will be provided to India to match his conversation that he was having during the terrorists operation in Mumbai. We have the recorded conversation of Lakhvi with Pakistani terrorists. Lakhvi was guiding and giving instructions to the terrorists all through the attack.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi not only offered peace talks with Islamabad but also agreed to visit Pakistan and attend the SAARC summit there in 2016 by accepting the invitation of Nawaz Shariff. What more Pakistan wants? I am constrained to write that the military brass of Pakistan aided by the ISI will be doing a great disservice to their country and the people by sabotaging the peace initiatives taken by New Delhi as they did in the past. Every time in the past since past 30 years or so, whenever the two countries agree to talk peace, the Army and the ISI have been doing things that frustrated the attempts of the elected governments of Pakistan to give peace a chance. It is high time Nawaz Shariff asserts himself and directs the Army and the ISI to fall in line and stop their dirty tricks to aid and abet terror violence in India. As of now Sharif’s appointee Gen Rahil Sharif, the Army Chief of Pakistan does not hold any threat to upstage Nawaz Shariff by staging a coup in his country something that former Army Chief General Parvez Musharraf did to Sharif to take over the government and force Sharif to flee the country.
